Hoodlum attacks SDP office

Hoodlums in Kogi SDP office. The Kogi head office of the Social Democratic Party, located on Paparanda Roundabout in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, has been vandalized.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the party’s secretariat was vandalized and some items were burned down at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, with no reports of death.

Mr Sam Abenemi, SDP Deputy Governorship Candidate, confirmed the event to newsmen in Lokoja on Sunday, calling it “wicked, shocking, and uncalled for.”

Abenemi expressed shock and concern at the magnitude of the state’s electioneering campaign for the Nov. 11 governorship election.

“All campaigning is, in my understanding, canvassing for votes, but the scale of the race is frightening and very unfortunate.”

“At around 10:15 a.m. this morning, some hoodlums, whom we suspected were sponsored, stormed our party office in Lokoja, vandalized it, and set some materials ablaze.”

“This is an evil, shocking, and uncalled-for act.” “This is not how politics is done in a democratic country like ours,” he explained.

“This evil and wicked act is aimed at scaring us away from participating in the governorship election,” Abenemi stated, “but we will not be deterred.”

He asked the people of Kogi to fully engage in the upcoming gubernatorial election, to choose who they want to lead, and to not allow anyone to impose an unpopular candidate on them.

However, he appealed to security operatives to investigate the heinous act and ensure the perpetrators were brought to book.

Contacted, SP Williams Ovye-Aya, the Kogi Police Command’s Spokesman, confirmed the incident but that no arrest had been made.

“We got the report about the vandalism of the campaign secretariat of SDP and we are investigating the incident to bring the hoodlums to book.

“As it is now, there’s no arrest,” Ovye-Aya said.
