Tight security as the Lagos tribunal sets to pass a verdict. Security has been tightened at the Roseline Omotosho Courthouse in Ikeja, as the Lagos State Election Petitions Tribunal prepares for its verdict on petitions challenging Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s election as the governor of Lagos State.
The petitions were submitted by Abdulazeez Adediran, also known as Jandor, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, and Labour Party counterpart, Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour. Security officers took over the courthouse’s main entrance, screening journalists, lawyers, and others before they could enter. A few people were prevented from entering the premises by security personnel.
Adediran of the PDP claimed in his petition that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu provided the Independent National Electoral Commission with a forged West African School Certificate. He additionally alleged that Lagos Deputy Governor Kadri Hazmat failed to include a sworn oath declaration in the INEC Nomination Form EC9. He further contended that the APC did not adhere to the provisions of the Electoral Act when nominating Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat.
Rhodes-Vivour, in his petition, raised concerns about Hazmat’s eligibility to run for office, citing allegations that Hazmat had renounced his Nigerian citizenship and pledged allegiance to the United States of America.
