Julius Berger submits second Niger bridge to FG. The Federal Government has taken over the construction of the second Niger Bridge from the contractor, Julius Berger.
This comes six months after it was commissioned on May 23 by President Muhammadu Buhari’s immediate prior administration.
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, stated to press shortly after being led around the bridge that he was pleased with the quality of work done.
Dr Lars Richter, Managing Director of Julius Berger, took Umahi around the bridge.
The minister praised both the previous and current administrations for their efforts to complete the job.
He went on to say that President Bola Tinubu was fully devoted to the project, and that the Federal Government wants to develop service stations, filling stations, restaurants, supermarkets, and other facilities similar to those seen in the Western world.
“We have light issues, and we have put things together on how to permanently restore lights, especially at night,” he stated. We have decided to put solar solutions in the coming weeks so that we do not have to use diesel every night.
“The roads will be finished when we finish the two interchanges, one of which will take us away from Asaba town to cut off traffic, and the other will be done by Reynolds Construction Company Ltd to avoid Onitsha town and take you straight to Obosi.”
“President Bola Tinubu is very committed to the project; we will acquire more in order to build service stations, filling stations, restaurants, and supermarkets.”
The minister stated that closed-circuit cameras, as well as security staff and monitoring and patrol every five minutes, would be installed at the facility to improve bridge security.
Richter, the Managing Director of Julius Berger, stated earlier in his speech that the ceremony was a technical handover following the project’s inauguration by the previous administration.
