Murderers of Imo DPO apprehended. The Imo State Police Command announced on Sunday that it has apprehended the killers of the state’s Divisional Police Officer in the Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area.

Last Monday, gunmen killed the DPO, an Inspector of Police, and a civilian in an attack in Ahiara.

 

Danjuma Aboki, the state Commissioner of Police, told journalists at the command headquarters that the suspects were apprehended as a result of a concerted operation by command operatives.

“Following the murder of DPO Ahiazu Mbaise and an Inspector of Police on 27/11/2023, at Ahiara junction in Ahiazu Mbaise by disgruntled elements suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed militia Eastern Security Network (ESN), and subsequent confessions of suspects arrested at the scene by Police operatives in collaboration with the Military, operatives of the Anti-Kidn

“The determined operatives continued their operation in search of the fleeing terrorists, storming Igbodo-Etche in Rivers State via a Technical Intelligence Tracking Device, where a native doctor named Everest Agbaragam’m’, 62, of Umuoma, Igbodo, Etche Rivers State AKA Mount Everest was arrested.”

“During the search of his shrine, a pump action gun loaded with 12 live cartridges, a large bag containing various denominations of Biafran currency, a live crocodile, and fetish items were discovered.”

“During questioning, he admitted to being a member of IPOB/ESN.” He added that before any operation, he normally produces native bulletproof charms known as ‘Odeshi’ for his cohorts. On 1/12/23, he delivered valuable information to the valiant operators attacking Umuogwu Forest in Aboh Mbaise LGA.”

“The terrorists engaged the Police in a gun battle but were subdued by the combat-ready operatives who professionally maneuvered into vintage position and returned fire,” he continued. Some of them were killed in the ensuing gun battle, while others fled into the tick forest with bullet wounds.

“The terrorist camp was dismantled, and the following exhibits were recovered: 1. five (5) AK-47 riffles, 2. six (6) magazines holding two hundred and twenty (220) rounds of live ammunition, 3. six (6) pump action rifles, 4. one hundred twenty-one (121) rounds of live cartridges, 5. one revolver, Six (4) locally produced pistols 7. Three Toyota Venza cars, including the one used in the DPO attack, a Toyota Highlander SUV, and IEDs.

“An intensive manhunt is underway to apprehend other fleeing suspects.” Following the completion of a thorough investigation, they will be arraigned in court.”

 

He stated that the Police Command, led by him, had continued to increase its efforts to ensure maximum safety and security for the people of the state.

The killing of the DPO, the traditional ruler of the Otulu community in the state’s Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area, Eze Joe Achulor, a ward chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, prompted him to convene a crucial meeting with inter-agency security chiefs in the state aimed at rolling out collaborative operational strategies that would assist in bringing the assailants to book, according to the CP.
