Manager Wayne Rooney
Wayne Rooney, Head coach Of Birmingham sacked. Birmingham City manager Wayne Rooney has been fired. Birmingham City Football Club made the announcement in a statement issued on Tuesday and uploaded on its official website.
The organization stated that Rooney was fired due to his failure to meet expectations.
“Birmingham City has today parted ways with Manager Wayne Rooney and First Team Coach Carl Robinson,” said the announcement.
“Despite their best efforts, the results have fallen short of the initial expectations.” As a result, the Board believes that a management change is in the best interests of the Football Club.
“The Club’s Board of Directors and management are fully aligned and will continue to drive transformation and bold steps to rebuild Birmingham City into the organization its fans and community deserve.”
“The Board would like to place on record their sincere thanks to Wayne and Carl for all of their efforts.”
Garry Cook, Chief Executive Officer, stated, “We are committed to doing whatever it takes to bring success to St. Andrew’s.”
“Unfortunately, Wayne’s time with us did not go as planned, so we decided to take a different path.”
“The search for a successor begins with immediate effect and we will update supporters when we have further news.”
The cloud, on the other hand, revealed that Professional Development Coach Steve Spooner “will assume interim responsibility for Men’s First Team matters.” The remaining coaching staff would be expected to maintain their tasks in order to aid Spooner.”
The Manchester United and England all-time leading scorer was appointed Blues manager in October, succeeding John Eustace.
Since then, Rooney has won just two of his 15 Championship games as manager, and the club has dropped from sixth to twentieth in the table.
Rooney, 38, was appointed while Birmingham was in the promotion play-offs, having gained 18 points from their first 11 Championship games.
Leeds fans chanted ‘you’re getting dismissed in the morning’ following the 3-0 defeat at Elland Road on Sunday, adding to Rooney’s pressure.
The Manchester United and England legend has already been fired, with an official announcement anticipated later on Tuesday.
Following the club’s acquisition by American-based Shelby Companies Limited in October, Rooney was given a three-year contract by Birmingham.
“Wayne is a born winner,” remarked co-owner and chairman Tom Wagner at the time of his appointment.
“We believe that, with the help of his coaching staff, the club, and our fans, he will lead Blues to the next stage of our journey.”
“His playing philosophy will help us achieve the goals we’ve set for Birmingham City.
“Wayne has been preparing for this opportunity since he began his coaching education while still a Manchester United player.”
“He and his staff have the full support of the board and everyone at the football club.”
However, Rooney, who formerly coached Derby County and DC United, has only been in charge for less than three months.
He won only two of his 15 games in command, surrendering 30 goals as Birmingham fell to the bottom of the standings.
