Armed Bandits targeted travellers on the Abuja–Kaduna highway, abducting over 30 people in the latest attack near Dogon-Fili, close to Katari along the Kaduna-Abuja highway in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

This incident marks a resurgence of banditry on the crucial route, breaching security measures that had held for more than ten months. The last reported incident on this highway was on March 1, 2023, when 23 individuals were abducted.

Former lawmaker Senator Shehu Sani confirmed the attack on his social media page, revealing that two of his friends narrowly escaped kidnapping as soldiers stationed around 500 meters from Katari successfully repelled the bandits. However, the exact number of people abducted remains uncertain.

When approached for comment, the Kaduna State Overseeing Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, stated he couldn’t confirm the incident at that moment but assured a follow-up after a meeting. The state Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, also pledged to investigate the situation and provide details. As of press time, no further information had been released.
