UNN suspends lecturer for alleged Sexual misconduct, initiates probe
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, has taken decisive action against a lecturer, Mr. Mfonobong Udoudom, following allegations of sexual misconduct captured in a viral video. Mr. Udoudom, who hails from the General Studies division of the institution, was depicted in the video, which swiftly led to his suspension pending further investigation. While the precise date of the incident remains unverified, the university has officially acknowledged it. In a statement released on Tuesday by Acting Public Relations Officer, Chief Okwun Omeaku, the university clarified that Mr. Udoudom does not hold the title of professor. His suspension, effective immediately and indefinite in duration, aims to facilitate a thorough investigation by a disciplinary panel assembled by the university. The institution emphasized its unwavering stance against sexual misconduct, underscoring its status as one of the few universities in Nigeria with a comprehensive Sexual Harassment Policy. The university assured that the matter will be meticulously investigated, and appropriate sanctions will be imposed if Mr. Udoudom is found guilty by the disciplinary panel. In a viral video reviewed by the university, a voice was heard alluding to ongoing monitoring and the availability of evidence related to the case. Another voice, purportedly belonging to a member of the task force, expressed a sense of urgency in questioning, signaling the seriousness with which the matter is being addressed.
