Ohanaeze Ndigbo has urged Peter Obi and others to engage in diplomatic dialogue with Minister Dave Umahi regarding the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project, rather than resorting to public confrontations that could hinder its progress

In a statement released on Sunday, Ohanaeze emphasized the need for constructive engagement over unwarranted criticism, stating that such approaches do not serve the nation’s interest

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization condemned the vilification of Umahi and called for respectful dialogue to foster collaboration and gain authentic insights into national development project

Umahi had accused Obi of inciting the South East populace against the Federal Government over the coastal highway project, labeling it a “job-losing” endeavor. In response, Obi defended his actions during his tenure as governor, emphasizing the removal of structures obstructing existing road

Ohanaeze reiterated its solidarity with Nigerians and commended President Tinubu and Senator Umahi for their commitment to enhancing national infrastructure, citing the recent allocation of a compensation fund for affected property owners along the project’s Right-of-Way

The organization urged stakeholders to prioritize collective advancement and engage in constructive dialogue to address decades-long neglect of critical infrastructure in the region

Umahi disclosed that the FG would commence the payment of compensation to property owners affected by the demolition necessary for the construction of the coastal highway
