Atiku alleges Coastal highway expedited due to Tinubu-chagoury business relationship

Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, has raised concerns about the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, alleging that it is being fast-tracked solely because of the business ties between President Bola Tinubu and Gilbert Chagoury, the owner of Hitech, the contractor responsible for the project.

In a statement released by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, Atiku accused Tinubu’s administration of prioritizing personal business interests over national welfare, highlighting conflicts of interest involving Tinubu’s son and associates on the boards of companies belonging to Gilbert Chagoury.

Atiku emphasized the lack of proper notification regarding the demolition of properties along the Oniru corridor, arguing that such actions hinder foreign direct investments and neglect national interests.

The former Vice President criticized the rushed awarding of the highway project, conversion from a PPP to a government-funded initiative, and the release of funds without approval from the National Assembly.

He called for transparency in project execution and warned against jeopardizing the nation’s economic stability for personal gain.
