Autonomy demand: Yoruba youths firm on self-determination
A youth group known as Yoruba National Youths, comprising both home-based and diaspora members, has reiterated their unwavering commitment to the quest for Yoruba Nation autonomy, deeming it non-negotiable.
Expressing discontent with recent statements made by Chief Gilbert Olokesusi, the National Chairman of the Apostles of Jagaban, the youths condemned attempts to discourage the Yoruba Nation agitation. They emphasized their determination to pursue self-determination, allowing the Yoruba region to govern its resources and progress independently.
Furthermore, the group issued a June 30th, 2024 ultimatum to the Federal government to address the escalating violence and kidnappings perpetrated by Fulani Herdsmen in Yoruba land.
While applauding the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, for his support of Yoruba Nation autonomy, the youths cautioned against the interference of leaders and groups like Afenifere in their pursuit of self-determination.
They highlighted instances of violence and economic disruption caused by Hausa and Fulani hoodlums in Yoruba communities, urging swift action from security agencies to ensure the safety and prosperity of the region.
The youths criticized the exclusion of Yoruba youth voices in decision-making processes and called for an end to negotiations conducted without their representation. They urged the Nigerian government to initiate discussions on Yoruba autonomy as a federating unit within the country.
