Lydia Simon, the Chibok schoolgirl who was rescued alongside her three children by Nigerian Army troops, has been handed over to the Borno State government for reunification with her family. Maj.-Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, the Theater Commander, North-East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, facilitated the handover in Maiduguri.

The rescue took place on Wednesday, April 17, in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, where troops of the 82 Division Task Force Battalion found Lydia Simon, who was six months pregnant at the time, along with her three children.

Maj.-Gen. Waidi Shuaibu disclosed that Lydia Simon was the 18th Chibok schoolgirl rescued by the Nigerian military since the abduction incident in 2014. The rescue effort aligns with ongoing national and international initiatives aimed at bringing back the abducted Chibok girls and reuniting them with their families.

Brig.-Gen. Abubakar Haruna, the Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC), 7 Division, mentioned that Lydia Simon received medical treatment and care from the division upon her release.
