The Kwara State Police Command has apprehended a 46-year-old ritualist while he was attempting to slaughter a 10-year-old boy hawking pepper in Ilorin, the state capital.

 

The suspect, Isiaka Adeniyi, was arrested on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024, in the Oke-Foma area of Ilorin West Local Government Area.

 

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, the incident occurred when Adeniyi allegedly lured the young hawker into a room under the pretext of buying pepper from him.

 

“On July 2, 2024, around 1800 hrs, a report from Onidoko Police Post indicated that a 10-year-old boy hawking pepper was lured into a room by Isiaka Adeniyi, aged 46, from Ifedapo Community, Oke-Foma area, Ilorin. The suspect covered the boy’s face with a cloth and attempted to slaughter him with a knife,” Toun stated.

 

Thanks to the swift action of vigilant community members, Adeniyi was apprehended and taken to the police station. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

 

Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, praised the community members for their proactive efforts in apprehending the suspect and ensuring justice is served.

 

“We urge the public to remain calm as we continue our investigation and assure them that the police will leave no stone unturned in ensuring the safety and security of all residents of Kwara State,” Olaiya stated.

 

In response to past incidents of violence on July 7, the Kwara State Police Command has deployed tactical teams to ensure public security. The command has intensified surveillance and increased the presence of visible policing across key areas.

 

“We have implemented comprehensive strategies to prevent any recurrence of such activities. Our officers will conduct thorough patrols and security checks to detect and deter any suspicious activity,” the command said.
