On May 13, 2023, former Senator Sehu Sani, who represented the Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly, took to his Twitter account with 3 million followers to ask for the whereabouts of the farmers who had bought a ticket for the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, who expressed interest in running for the position of President of Nigeria.
Recall that in May 2022, a group consisting of rice farmers and other crop growers was said to have procured the All Progressives Congress’ presidential expression of interest and nomination forms for the CBN governor in the 2023 presidential race.
Emefiele lost his bid as he was disqualified from running and failed to obtain a court order to back his presidential ambition.
There was an increase in demands for the resignation of Emefiele following reports that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party had purchased the presidential nomination and expression of interest form worth 100 million naira (approximately $240,000) for the central bank governor.
