Abba Kabir Yusuf, Kano state governor
Kano State Governor unveils plan to rebuild Jubilee Tower. Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf revealed plans to reconstruct the Kano Golden Jubilee Tower, which was recently demolished by his administration.
The Yusuf administration dismantled the tower built to commemorate Kano State’s 50th anniversary as part of the continuous demolitions of monuments associated with the administration of his predecessor in the state, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje.
However, in the aftermath of the stunning tower’s destruction, the government later stated that the structure, which was built in front of Kano Government House, was demolished because it posed a security danger.
A government official also said that it was destroyed because the tower had a cross on it.
However, in apparent response to the outcry that greeted the structure’s demolition, the Yusuf government announced intentions to relocate and restore the original design of the demolished Golden Jubilee Tower near Naibawa Roundabout.
The governor’s spokesperson, Comrade Hisham Habib, said in a statement, “Kano state government is to reinstate the design of the demolished roundabout at Naibawa Flyover.”
“The Kano State government, led by Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has made plans to relocate the iconic design from the demolished roundabout near the Government House to a more secure location on the outskirts of the city at the Naibawa Flyover.”
“Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who met with Kaltume Hana, the designer of the Golden Jubilee edifice, at the new site for the erection of the structure, expressed the government’s commitment to infrastructural development,” he said.
After a thorough examination, he stated that the location is adequate for the job and will not cause any difficulties, and he told the locals that better projects are on the way.
“Kaltume Gana, the designer, thanked the governor for preserving her one-of-a-kind work, which was deemed a masterpiece.”
“The structure, which was designed like a traditional gate with a trumpet on top, was pulled down after it was deemed not suitable for the place, and a better replacement will be put in place,” he added.
