Kidnapped INEC official released in Bayelsa. The Independent National Electoral Commission stated on Saturday that one of its Supervisory Presiding Officers, who was kidnapped on the eve of the governorship election at the Amassoma jetty in Bayelsa State’s Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, has been released.
According to a statement signed by Wilfred Ifogah, Head of Department, Voter Education and Publicity, INEC headquarters, Bayelsa State, the liberated victim is doing well.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission, Bayelsa State Office, is pleased to inform stakeholders and concerned citizens in Nigeria that the INEC SPO previously abducted on the eve of the election has been freed and is doing well,” Ifogah said.
“The Commission wishes to thank everyone who took action and cared about ensuring the safe release and return.”
INEC has already reported the kidnapping of one of its SPOs in Bayelsa State on Friday.
“In addition, INEC claims that its SPO assigned to Registration Area – 06 (Ossiama) in Sagbama LGA was kidnapped while waiting to board a boat at Amassoma jetty.
“The security agencies have been notified,” according to the commission.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has suspended elections in nine Kogi State wards, citing accusations of electoral misconduct.
The nine wards are located in the state’s Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area. They are Eni, Okibo, Okesi, Ileteju, Aiyeromi, Ugugu, Obinoyin, Obatgben and Oturu.
This was said in a statement issued on Saturday night by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, National Commissioner & Member, Information and Voter Education Committee.
“The Commission has received reports from our officials in Kogi State on incidences of electoral malpractices, particularly the incident of result sheets completed before voting.
