Nigeria President returns to Abuja from COP28. President Bola Tinubu returned to Abuja on Tuesday evening after attending the COP28 Climate Summit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

He returned to the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at 6:45 p.m. Nigerian time, bringing his six-day tour to the Arab country to a close.

Tinubu, who did not issue a national statement at the COP28 Climate Summit in Dubai, gave his first public address on Saturday, December 1, at the Summit on Methane and Other Non-CO2 Greenhouse Gases.

He spoke with COP28 President Dr. Ahmed Al-Jaber, US Special Envoy on Climate John Kerry, and Chinese Envoy on Climate Xie Zhenhua, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

A day earlier, on Friday, Tinubu and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz signed a performance agreement to speed the implementation of the 12,000 megawatt Presidential Power Initiative to boost Nigeria’s electricity supply.

He also participated in a panel on African Green Industrialisation organized by the COP28 Presidency and the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in which he emphasized the importance of risk management in Africa’s transition to cleaner energy.

President Tinubu stated at another high-level meeting with stakeholders and investors on the Nigeria Carbon Market and Electric Buses Rollout Programme that Nigeria is taking a huge step toward a sustainable and eco-friendly future by deploying a fleet of 100 electric buses.

Dubai is President Tinubu’s 11th foreign trip since taking office six months ago.

He has already visited Paris, France (twice), London, United Kingdom, Bissau, Guinea-Bissau (twice), Nairobi, Kenya, Porto Norvo, Benin Republic, New Delhi, India, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, New York, United States of America, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Berlin, Germany.
