Soldier criticizing Sanwo-Olu arrested, confirms Army Chief.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has officially acknowledged the arrest of a soldier who criticized Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in a viral video.
Governor Sanwo-Olu had previously ordered the arrest of a soldier and some Okada riders for traffic violations on the Lagos-Badagry expressway. In response, a video surfaced with a soldier expressing disapproval of the governor’s actions, claiming the labeling of a soldier as “useless” in front of civilians.
Addressing the matter during the commissioning of an officers’ mess in Enugu state, Lt. Gen. Lagbaja condemned the soldier’s conduct, emphasizing that it does not represent the values of the entire Nigerian Army. He clarified that the army had investigated multiple viral videos but confirmed that only one authentic video led to the arrest of the soldier involved.
Lt. Gen. Lagbaja assured that the army takes disciplinary measures seriously and is committed to upholding the law. He emphasized that soldiers criticizing the Lagos State governor on social media are not genuine army personnel, and steps are being taken to address such instances.
