The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, plans to address the longstanding issue of flight delays and cancellations by initiating the publication of a weekly list of affected flights, along with reasons and actions taken. Minister Festus Keyamo announced this commitment during an appearance on Channels TV‘s Politics Today. He emphasized the need to hold airlines accountable for delays and assured that the ministry is prepared to enforce international laws related to customer compensation for such inconveniences.

Keyamo acknowledged the challenges faced by air travelers and expressed a desire to bring relief by addressing the delicate issue without discouraging potential investors in the aviation sector. The ministry aims to work towards creating a better regulatory framework for flight delays, offering support to passengers and engaging insurance companies to ensure timely interventions.

In addition, the minister highlighted the relocation of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) headquarters from Abuja to Lagos. Keyamo justified this move, stating that it would save the government significant expenses on flight tickets incurred by FAAN officials commuting between the two cities.
