Osimhen shines with hat-trick as Napoli crush Sassuolo 6-1.
Napoli delivered a stunning performance as they thrashed Sassuolo 6-1, with Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia stealing the show with their goal-scoring prowess. Osimhen’s clinical display saw him bag a hat-trick, while Kvaratskhelia added two more goals to the tally, reminiscent of their formidable partnership that propelled Napoli to last season’s Serie A title.
The match took an exciting turn when Amir Rrahmani equalized just before the half-hour mark, setting the stage for Osimhen’s remarkable performance. The Nigerian striker showcased his prowess with three goals, taking his tally to five in three matches since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations.
Kvaratskhelia joined the goal-scoring spree with two sensational strikes in the 51st and 75th minutes, further extending Napoli’s lead against a struggling Sassuolo side.
Despite Napoli’s victory, they remain in ninth place in the Serie A table, but the win has reignited hopes of European football. With just their third league win of 2024, Napoli now trail sixth-placed Roma by four points, keeping their aspirations for the Europa Conference League alive.
However, Inter Milan’s dominant lead in the league, sitting 26 points ahead, highlights the challenging season for Napoli as they struggle to defend their title.
As Napoli sets their sights on climbing the league table, they face a crucial fixture against rivals Juventus, while Sassuolo, under new management, find themselves in the relegation zone after a disappointing run of results.
The victory against Sassuolo serves as a statement of intent for Napoli, demonstrating their resilience and attacking prowess as they strive for success in the Serie A.N
