David Adeleke
Davido deletes music video over pressure. David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, is a Nigerian Afrobeat musician who received criticism from Islamists over a controversial music video that he erased.
The Davido Music Worldwide label head and his signee, Olamilekan Taiwo, alias Logos Olori, reportedly made a commotion online after the release of the latter’s latest album, “Jaye Lo,” and elicited conflicting responses from internet users.
Friday saw Davido share a 45-second snippet of the new video on Instagram, which has since caused tongues to start buzzing. Many Muslim devotees have labelled the video offensive and are now calling for a retraction while also threatening the artistes with a lawsuit.
The controversial scene featured some men depicting praying mallams seen dancing in front of a mosque instead of praying. This dancing act has since been deemed offensive by some Muslim devotees.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari’s advisor Bashir Ahmad applauded the musician for taking down the video in response to the incident.
It’s fantastic to learn that Davido removed that cruel and insulting video, he tweeted. We sincerely recommend that the same severe error should never happen again from him or anyone else, and we hope that the entire scene will be removed from the actual footage before it is released to the market. When we celebrate the wonder of coexisting in harmony and unity while valuing our diversity, it is always amazing.
Another Twitter user who goes by the handle @PoojaMedia praised Davido and his staff for handling the situation with maturity.
“You have to give credit to Davido’s PR staff for turning negative energy into something positive. Gifted the woman $10,000, removed the video, and released the gift video along with prayers for Davido to catch and harness fresh energy. If you’re in the PR industry, you have a lot to learn in just 24 hours.
I see why they were placing all the responsibility for the Davido video on Peter Obi, commented @lollypeezle. It makes sense. The father of the mother who is the half-brother to the son of the first father-in-law to the final daughter of the Obi is the father of Davido.
