Military commitment to security — Air Chief urges sustained efforts.
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, emphasized the military’s obligation to ensure a secure Nigeria in the current administration. President Bola Tinubu’s provision of essential equipment and resources underscores the military’s responsibility to fulfill its constitutional mandates, according to Abubakar.
With the substantial N3.2tn allocated for defence and security in the 2024 budget, observers assert that security agencies have no justification for not meeting their mandates.
In a statement by the service’s Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Abubakar urged troops to sustain their efforts against criminal elements, ensuring the support of citizens. The Air Chief highlighted that the government has equipped the military to succeed, leaving no room for excuses.
Abubakar called on all Nigerians to continue supporting the military and offering prayers for fallen heroes. Acknowledging the nation’s debt to these heroes, he stressed the need to persist in efforts to restore peace and tranquility, emphasizing the dedication and commitment of the fallen heroes in achieving a peaceful past.
Encouraging gratitude, goodwill, solidarity, and unrelenting prayers for fallen heroes and their families, the Air Chief assured that the country would not forget their sacrifices. To pay tribute, Abubakar advised troops to sustain joint air, ground, and maritime strikes against terrorists, insurgents, economic saboteurs, and other non-state actors.
