Adelami is confirmed as deputy governor – Ondo Assembly.
Olayide Adelami was vetted and approved to serve as the deputy governor of Ondo State by the Ondo State House of Assembly on Thursday.
The event occurred a day after Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the governor, selected Adelami as the deputy governor-nominee and forwarded his name to the Assembly for verification and ratification.
During the plenary session of the Assembly, the nominee was confirmed following the review of a report by the House selection committee, which was chaired by Mr. Olamide Oladij, the Speaker.
Before the plenary, the House had earlier used the Assembly complex for a screening process for the nominee.
The letter that Governor Aiyedatiwa addressed to the House requesting that the nominees be considered was read aloud by House Clerk Jaiyeola Benjamin during the session.
Following the report’s submission, Abayomi Akinruntan, the Deputy Speaker of the House, suggested confirming Adelami’s nomination and reiterating that she had undergone due diligence.
The proposal to consider the report and confirm the candidate was made by Mr. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, the majority leader of the house.
Felix Afe, who represents Akoko North West 2 Constituency, seconded the motion. The Deputy Governor-designate was congratulated by Speaker Oladiji, who ruled in favour of confirmation.
He was also urged to “put in his best and pledge the house support to the executive for the people to enjoy more democracy dividend.”
In his reply, Adelami expressed gratitude to Governor Aiyedatiwa for his nomination and vowed to uphold the trust placed in him.
