The Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL) has taken legal action against the Minister of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, and music promoter Kenny Ogungbe over alleged violations of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Act.

In a suit filed, NBA-SPIDEL seeks the court’s intervention to remove Minister Hannatu Musawa from office, alleging breaches of the NYSC Act. Additionally, they request the court to compel the NYSC to nullify the certificates issued to both Musawa and Kenny Ogungbe, asserting that the issuance of these certificates violates the NYSC Act Cap N84.LFN 2024.

The plaintiffs, John Aikpokpo-Martins (Chairman, NBA-SPIDEL) and Funmi Adeogun (Secretary, NBA-SPIDEL), argue that the mobilization of Musawa and Ogungbe for the mandatory one-year national youth service, despite exceeding 30 years of age, is unlawful and an affront to patriotism.

They further contend that Musawa and Ogungbe’s purported national service and the NYSC certificates are null and void. The plaintiffs seek a declaration that, based on the NYSC Act, both defendants are not entitled to be employed without possessing and presenting their NYSC certificates.
