NLC President criticizes Governor selection in minimum wage committee.
The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, expressed discontent with the composition of the 37-member Tripartite Committee on Minimum W., highlighting that many governors on the panel do not comply with the current minimum w. standards. Ajaero criticized the absence of governors fully adhering to minimum wage regulations, raising concerns about the representation in the committee.
Vice President Kashim Shettima inaugurated the committee, emphasizing the need for a resolution before the expiration of the current N30,000 minimum w. in March 2024. Ajaero questioned the inclusion of non-compliant governors, asserting that the imbalance in representation could impact the committee’s outcomes.
Ajaero also addressed the country’s reliance on the dollar for transactions, expressing worry about the government’s policy of dollarization. Despite concerns, he highlighted the Labour Congress’s inability to influence this governmental decision.
