Obaseki denounces Shaibu over chapel controversy
Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has accused his deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu, of mischief regarding the renovation of the Interdenominational Government House Chapel in Benin. In a statement, Obaseki expressed disappointment over Shaibu’s attempts to create controversy around the chapel’s renovation, accusing him of using sacred matters for political gain. Obaseki denounces Shaibu for such act.
Obaseki stated that his deputy’s actions aimed to stir political sentiments by exploiting religious sentiments among Nigerians and Edo people. He emphasized that the chapel was not closed for worship, contradicting the narrative circulated on social media. The governor alleged that Shaibu orchestrated the spread of false information by organizing an outdoor mass with Catholic faithful, linking him to the misinformation.
After the Governor denounces Shaibu, the Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, declined to respond to the allegations. Obaseki urged Shaibu to redirect his efforts from creating mischief to focusing on his political aspirations, emphasizing the inappropriate use of sacred matters for campaign purposes.
