The Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Barr Hannatu Musa Musawa, has underscored the manifold advantages of arts for health and well-being.

During a virtual address inaugurating the National Arts in Health Week 2024 in Lagos, Musawa highlighted the transformative influence of arts in fostering physical, emotional, and mental wellness. She advocated for increased recognition and support for arts in health initiatives.

Through various artistic mediums such as painting, drawing, and sculpting, individuals find a nurturing space to explore their thoughts and emotions. Art therapy enables individuals to externalize internal struggles, gain insights, and build resilience in challenging times.

Art serves as a potent mode of communication, particularly for those who struggle to articulate their feelings verbally. For individuals dealing with mental health issues or chronic illnesses, art provides a nonverbal avenue for self-expression, allowing them to convey complex emotions and experiences.

In closing remarks, the Artistic Director of the National Troupe of Nigeria, Hajiya Kaltume Bulama Gana, commended the organizers of the National Arts in Health Week Nigeria and stressed the importance of arts in promoting holistic wellness and unity.

Throughout the week, participants will partake in workshops, seminars, exhibitions, and performances showcasing the benefits of arts for health and well-being.

The National Arts in Health Week Nigeria 2024 is a collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, the Global Arts in Medicine Fellowship, the Ministry of Health, and the WHO-Jameel Arts and Health Lab.
