In a joint operation involving troops from Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), the police, and other security agencies, nine kidnap victims were successfully rescued, and two suspects were apprehended in Benue. Major General Sunday Igbinomwanhia, the Force Commander of OPWS, revealed these developments during a press briefing in Makurdi.

The operation, conducted on Tuesday in the Owukpa forest of Ogbadibo Local Government Area, resulted in the rescue of eight females and one male. The victims had been kidnapped while traveling in a commercial bus along the Otukpo–Enugu Road on January 11.

During the operation, a firefight ensued, causing the kidnappers to abandon their hideout due to the superior firepower of the security forces. Among the items recovered at the scene were one AK-47 rifle and ten mobile phones.

Following the rescue, the victims were promptly moved to the Sector Headquarters for initial medical attention. After debriefing, they were allowed to proceed to their respective destinations.

Major General Igbinomwanhia confirmed that the arrested suspects, along with all recovered items, have been handed over to the police for further action.
