Benue Governor warns former leaders against meddling

Benue State Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, issued a stern warning to former governors, urging them to refrain from interfering in his administration, stating that their terms had concluded.

Addressing journalists in Makurdi upon his return from the United States of America, Governor Alia emphasized the need for former leaders to allow the current administration to function without disruption.

Although he did not mention anyone specifically, the governor’s remarks seemed directed at his predecessor, Samuel Ortom, who recently urged support for the governor’s efforts and cautioned against discord.

Governor Alia stressed the importance of constructive criticism but emphasized the necessity of verifying facts before making statements.

During his visit to the USA, Governor Alia, alongside nine other Northern governors, engaged in discussions with the US Peace Institute on addressing regional insecurity.

He highlighted the focus on repatriating displaced persons and promoting peace in the state, particularly in areas like Gwer West, Gwer East, Guma, and Makurdi.

Emphasizing the role of every citizen in maintaining security, Governor Alia urged cooperation with security agencies and denounced attempts to manipulate or exploit communities.

Furthermore, he expressed his commitment to not only meeting financial obligations but also creating employment opportunities for the state’s youth.

Governor Alia called for a retraction of derogatory remarks towards Benue youth and reiterated his dedication to fostering peace and development in the state.
